If your car broke down on the freeway, would you call a poet?

It was a personal letter he wrote to me after my partner, Montreal poet Endre Farkas, and I invited him to participate in the Montreal edition of the Irving Layton Centenary Celebration in 2012. That evening he read a couple of Layton poems on stage, alongside some of our city’s finest poets. You can see the YouTube video here: http://youtu.be/kUis3MiLW4M

Where and when did he say this? Such a great quote needs to be spread around, but I need a source.
It was the last line in a personal letter he wrote me thanking him for inviting him to participate in the Montreal edition of the Irving Layton Centenary celebration that I organized along with Montreal poet Endre Farkas in 2012. That evening he read a couple of Layton poems alongside some of Montreal’s finest poets. You can see his reading here on YouTube: http://youtu.be/kUis3MiLW4M
